You taught me to yell and scream <\/p>\n\n\n\n
and fight and argue <\/p>\n\n\n\n
even at the slightest inconvenience <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You taught me to speak <\/p>\n\n\n\n
over other voices <\/p>\n\n\n\n
even the ones worth listening to <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You taught me that which is not like you <\/p>\n\n\n\n
isn\u2019t to be respected or understood <\/p>\n\n\n\n
but merely allowed to exist <\/p>\n\n\n\n
as long as no one else might see <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You taught me to throw my weight around <\/p>\n\n\n\n
and that the world owes you everything <\/p>\n\n\n\n
as long as you tried to give it something <\/p>\n\n\n\n
at some point sometime long ago <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You taught me that the man <\/p>\n\n\n\n
should be taken care of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the head of the table<\/p>\n\n\n\n
listened to and served by woman and child<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You taught me that the world should just <\/p>\n\n\n\n
get out of your way and let you <\/p>\n\n\n\n

and now it\u2019s long past time to learn <\/p>\n\n\n\n
to set that all aside<\/p>\n\n\n\n
